What’s Close By?
Take advantage of what the local area has to offer. There are many things that are just a short distance by foot or vehicle.
Stoughton is so much more than just a southern suburb of Boston, it is also a town that takes pride in what it provides the residents. Local commerce is thriving and the town center is transforming along with the 138 corridor. New businesses, like Sonic, add to the already diverse choice of eateries. Don’t forget to check out the boneless wings just down the block!
The area, tied deeply with it’s historic routes, is also home to the historic State Theatre right in the center with multiple productions a year put on by The Little Theatre of Stoughton. Past productions include classics like A Christmas Carol and modern hits like High School Musical.
Looking to enjoy mother nature, the area has plenty of those options too! Ames Pond offers swimming programs for kids and adults, and is just a short drive away. Halloran park is perfect for a picnic and nature trails are close by at the Bird Street conservation area.
Is There Green Space and Nature Walks Close?
Green spaces and connecting with mother nature is part of many people’s life. The Stoughton area has some great outlets close by.
The Capen Reynolds Farm project will add 22 acres more, with the 1700’s farm being gifted to the town for recreational and educational purposes. The project is expected to add a dog park, farm land with community garden space, and cooking demonstration space.
Bird Street Conservation area is another great local park mentioned earlier. This is a local amenity that shouldn’t be glossed over in one sentence, and deserves to be truly appreciated. You may find this area noted on bird watching blogs or trail guides. The 580 conservation area is filled with trails, and even offers hunting in the appropriate seasons (so wear bight orange during hunting season). A conservation area that allows controlled hunting is truly serving the intent of conservation land, and you should expect to see various forms of wild life on a trail walk. The area also has historical quarries and time worn stone houses.
Stoughton is also in very close proximity to the Borderland State Park located in Easton. Borderland is also a refuge for area wildlife and, like Bird Street, is filled with trails for dog walking, horse riding and just enjoying the fresh air.
Just a short ride down the street to Easton again, is Langwater Farm and Farmstand. Known throughout the state as a source of amazing organic vegetables, served in some of the states finest restaurants, it is also a great spot to stop for the freshest organic produce.
What About Retail Therapy and Supplies?
Hunting down a bargain may be more your thing over nature, and there are plenty of those options locally as well.
Stoughton is home to the only New England Ikea store, where you may find yourself making frequent trips as you furnish your new home. Just a few miles away and you can stroll the expansive displays and aisles of home furnishings. There is also a Christmas Tree Shoppe, Staples and several other major retailers right along the way.
Take a slight turn and you are just a few miles from Target. Little further down the street is the modern and expansive movie theatre in Randolph for the movie buff. The theatre offers Lux Level accommodations and IMAX 3D with the latest and greatest in projection experience.
Washington Street itself is filled with retail options, and additional mall like shopping experiences can be had in many close by locations. University Station is the newest with Home Goods, Wegman’s and a few trendy eateries. Both Westgate Mall and the South Shore Plaza are also less than 15 minutes away as well. Legacy Place in Dedham offers several more great options to round off any fun day of shopping as well.
